Derek Wright
Mr. Wright graduated from Kennesaw State University with a degree in English and English Education. In 2016, he received a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on secondary English Language Arts. In 2019, he received a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
He began teaching at Alpharetta High School in 9th grade literature. Mr. Wright taught all-levels of English courses including AP, IB, co-taught, ESOL and general education classes. In 2021, he transitioned from the ELA department chair to Alpharetta High School’s graduation coach in which he focused on increasing the graduation rate, leading the RTI/SST process, and leading the MTSS team.
In 2024, Mr. Wright joined Elkins Pointe Middle School as the 8th grade Assistant Principal with a focus on the ELA, Reading, and ESOL curriculum as well as continuing work with the MTSS program.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his daughter Magnolia. He enjoys running, being outside, and watching the Falcons, Braves, and Hawks.
He is excited to join the Hopewell Middle School community and looking forward to continuing to cultivate the culture of learning and focus on the whole student.
